Helsinki Design Week

Helsinki Design Week brings creativity within reach of each CEB-participant. An annual festival of modern creativity, Helsinki Design Week draws design devotees of all backgrounds to extraordinary experiences and inspiring encounters. The Cable Factory turns into the main venue for Helsinki Design Week on September 4-13. The exhibitions show the coolest in architecture, design and fashion.

Participants of CEB will have a chance to take part in a number of activities. We recommend that you get acquainted with the
HDW programme before your take off to Helsinki to find the most interesting activities for you. Here are just a few samples:

Shopping in Helsinki
Fri Sept. 4 – Sat Sept. 12
Special shows, product launches, designer appearances and a whole lot of shopping takes place within the Design District, which comprises of 25 streets and 170 locations: design and antique shops, fashion stores, museums, art galleries, restaurants, design hotels and showrooms. Read more:

Designpartners
Tue Sept. 8 – Sat Sept. 12
A 4-day design gathering, Designpartners brings together creative professionals and other people. The Shows, the Stage, the Studios, the Bar. This year`s guests of honors arrive from Holland: the Dutch Pavilion starts its Scandinavian and Baltic tour from Helsinki.

PechaKuchaNight
Wed Sept. 9th
Pecha Kucha, sound of conversation in Japanese, is an informal forum for creative people to talk about creative things. Each presenter is allowed 20 images, each shown for 20 seconds giving 6 minutes 40 seconds of fame before the next presenter is up.

Open Studios
Wed Sept. 9 – Thu Sept. 10
Welcome to take a peak inside the studios, workshops and basements of designers, architects, artists and other creative spaces.

OpenHouseHelsinki
Thu Sept. 10 – Sat Sept. 12
OpenHouseHelsinki unconfines spaces normally restricted to public. Guided tours into interesting buildings, interiors, landmarks and old and more recent architectural destinations. The tours are free of charge and powered by architects and other experts.

Future City Game: Environmental creativity workshop
Sept. 10, 2009 at 9.00-12.00

Would you like to influence the future of Helsinki? Environmental Creativity in Helsinki workshop is a way to do it. The workshop will apply the Future City Game methodology which enables people to find solutions to the long-term challenges facing cities. Participants compete in teams to design and present their ideas. The number of participants is limited to 25. Participants will receive some materials prior to the workshop, therefore it is necessary to register in advance. Please send a short email stating your professional background to Kata Kreft-Burman (kata.kreft-burman(at)britishcouncil.fi) who will facilitate this event.

This workshop is also a part of the Creative Cities Project designed and managed by the British Council. Moderator: Kata Kreft-Burman.
